Dave Odd is a Chicago based nature enthusiast, wildlife photographer, and forager. He also happens to be a professional stand-up comedian and owner of The Edge Comedy Club in Chicago.
In the late summer of 2009 Dave was wandering through the woods on a nature hike and came across a patch of Chanterelle mushrooms. He roasted them on the side of the trail with some beef jerky skewered on sticks. He gathered up as many as he could carry to cook up at home. A few weeks later on a quest for salamanders to photograph, he found another huge patch of Chanterelles. One thing led to another and soon Dave was in the business of selling wild mushrooms to some of Chicago's finest restaurants.
In spring of 2010, Dave rediscovered his childhood hobby of foraging for wild edible plants and added dozens of exotic yet local options to his roster.
Just a few of the goodies Dave can gather for you throughot the growing season are ramps, garlic scapes, spring onions, many types of mint, bergamot, marjoram, dill, nettle, oyster mushrooms, winecap mushrooms, chanterelles, oyster mushrooms, wood blewits, hen of the woods, boletes, wood sorrel, lemon balm, pineapple weed (wild chamomile), lilly flowers, lily bulbsm lily shoots, Japanese knotweed, cattail shoots, chicory, garlic mustard, lamb's quarters, peppergrasses, sweet cicely, juniper berries, mulberries, cherries, apples, pears, black raspberries, red raspberries, ground cherries, lamb's quarters, purslane, and many other things that he happens to run across in his travels around the Chicagoland area. Special requests are always welcomed and he has sources for hundreds of spices, fruits, and exotic ingredients from around the world...if he doesn't have it, he can probably get it. He even has an extensive herb, vegetable and edible flower garden at his home that he harvests from daily.
